Brain Chemistry

Every single thought, dream, action, or emotion are chemicals in the brain at work. Neurotransmitters are constantly at work, made and released in the brain by the billions. They typically control how we feel, act, and react. within all of this, there are four main chemicals at work. A neurotransmitter is a chemical that is used by the end of a nerve fiber when there's an arrival of a new impulse.

  • Serotonin - This neurotransmitter is commonly believed to regulate mood, social behavior, appetite, digestion, sleep, memory, and libido. Having a lack of this chemical is linked to anxiety and depression.
  • Dopamine - Mainly used by the nervous system, dopamine is somewhat used to send messages between nerve cells. Dopamine also also plays a role in how we feel pleasure, along with our unique ability to think and plan.
  • Glutamate - Is a powerful neurotransmitter, the main neurotransmitter used for nerves to communicate. Under usual conditions it plays an important role in learning and memory.
  • Norepinephrine - This chemical acts as a stress hormone and a neurotransmitter, It is released into the bloodstream when a percieved stressful event occurs.
